A Guide to Choosing the Right Kitchen Countertops

Last updated 3 hours 26 minutes ago

New kitchen countertops can reinvigorate your kitchen in several different ways. The perfect type of countertop is durable and easy to maintain while being visually pleasing. But with so many options to choose from, how do you know which kitchen countertops are perfect for your home? Here is your guide to choosing the right kitchen countertops.

    Granite

If you are looking for a creative way to spruce up the look of your kitchen, you will enjoy the fact that each piece of granite looks different from the next. This popular countertop choice typically comes in neutral colors like beige and coral as well as shades of black and white. For kitchens with shinier designs, a granite countertop with a polished finish may be appropriate; this type of finish makes the stone look darker and provides a shiny characteristic. Alternatively, a honed finish offers a softer look.

    Engineered Stone

Engineered stone is typically about the same price as granite. However, this type of countertop is extremely durable and easy to maintain. Engineered stone is also available in a more expansive array of colors than granite. If you are looking for a low maintenance countertop that can fit in with any design, engineered stone may be your best choice.

    Wood

Many kitchens benefit from the cozy and warm atmosphere provided by wood countertops. In addition to creating a pleasant environment, wood countertops are also very easy to clean and maintain. Even scratches can be removed from the countertop by sanding. Protect your wood countertop from water damage by having it regularly oiled.

    Mixed Countertops

Each different material comes with its own advantages, so many people choose countertops that have a combination of elements. Wooden sections for chopping, for example, are commonly inserted into marble or granite countertops in order to provide a multi-purpose countertop that suits your needs.

Sustainability and energy efficiency are two of the hottest trends in kitchen design these days—and for good reason. Designing and installing a “green” kitchen can help you reduce electric, gas, and other utilities, which translates into lower monthly bills. Additionally, the ongoing use of a green kitchen brings little to no exposure to toxic chemicals such as paints and cleaning products and lower injury rates thanks to smaller and safer appliances.

Signs that Your Refrigerator is Ready for Replacement

    Last updated 24 days ago

A good refrigerator can last for years—but like any other appliance, at some point all refrigerators begin to break down and become burdensome. Old, inefficient refrigerators can raise your energy bills and may even spoil your groceries before you get a chance to use them. While it’s easy to tell when your air conditioner or water heater is on its way out, it isn’t so easy to tell when it comes to the refrigerator. To help, here are some signs that your refrigerator needs to be replaced.

    Age

The most obvious way to tell whether or not your refrigerator needs to be replaced is to find out how old it is. A typical refrigerator has a lifespan between 10 and 20 years. The longer you have had your refrigerator, the less efficient it will be, and the more it will cost to repair.

    Energy Efficiency

If you notice that your energy bills is going up steadily each month, regardless of the season, your old refrigerator may be to blame. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a 10 year-old refrigerator uses twice the energy of an Energy Star-certified model. Visit your local kitchen appliance showroom to learn how much you can save by switching to a new, energy-efficient model.

    Performance

Even if your refrigerator isn’t about to kick the can, it might be the case that it just isn’t performing the way you want or expect. If your fruits and vegetables are rotting faster than you can eat them, or if your frozen meats and deserts are covered in frost, consider a new refrigerator from a major brand that will exceed your performance expectations.

If your old refrigerator is on its way out, come to Kitchens of Colorado and see the major name-brand refrigerators we have in stock. In addition to our refrigerators, we carry everything else you need to complete the energy-efficient kitchen you’ve always wanted.
