I have been involved in some sort of artistic endeavor for what seems like most of my life. I have always liked to make things, model airplanes, tree houses, real houses, films, sculpture and now paintings or as they’re often referred to, MIXED MEDIA ON PANEL.
I’m basically a hardware store artist. I like to go to art supply stores to buy a few things like brushes and to look at the other cool stuff, but almost all of my supplies come from the hardware store or lumber yard. I start with a good grade of plywood, one with a veneer that won’t crack or blister. The wood base is necessary because of all the sanding that happens as the paint layers are applied and sanded back. There’s a fair amount of mystery that happens as I sand the layers, maybe a little like a potter waiting to see what comes out of the kiln. I’m never certain what will emerge.
After a layer of paint is applied and sanded, a coat of clear is applied which both protects the paint and gives depth to the layers. I can now paint over areas that don’t work and save areas that do. And so it goes with the process being repeated as many times as necessary. There are of course times when things don’t go as planned and everything either gets sanded off or a solid base coat is applied and things start from scratch.
The paintings are of an abstract nature; the forms are a combination of non-objective shapes with the final phase being the addition of some sort of hard edged graphic element, such as circles, numbers or letters as a contrast to the softer areas created by the sanding.
Once everything feels right, more clear layers are added and then the whole surface is finished with #0000 steel wool, buffed with automotive polishing compound and waxed; the resulting finish being something like an old piece of lacquered furniture, nice to the touch, so go ahead!

Go online, browse through home magazines, and ask your bath remodel company for pictures of previous jobs to determine what design styles you prefer. Show pictures of what you like to make sure your bath remodel experience goes as smoothly as possible.
Make a List of Desired Changes
How much of your bathroom do you want to change during the remodel? If there are any elements of this room that you like, it is important to make sure they stick around even after new bathroom features are added. Many older kitchens don’t provide the amenities that today’s homeowners are looking for, but on the other hand many modern designs that feature expansive smooth stainless steel surfaces can look cold and feel uninviting. When renovating their kitchens, many homeowners are now looking for designs that unite the classic look and charm of traditional kitchens with the modern conveniences that make cooking a joy. Below you will find some ideas to inspire you.
You can still have easy-to-clean stainless steel appliances without a cold, industrial feel in the kitchen. The trick is to carefully balance them with traditional, painted wooden cabinets. Make sure you use a high-gloss paint, and choose a light color so that you will be able to clean up splashes and spills easily.
Stone countertops are very popular because they can withstand the heat from hot dishes and pans straight from the oven, and because once sealed they are very easy to clean. If you want your kitchen to have a traditional look, pass over granite and composite quartz in favor of marble. This stone, while it can be polished to high gloss, looks warmer, more natural, and more inviting than the others.
Old World Details
Even the most contemporary of kitchen features, the prep island, can be made more traditional with a careful application of details. Rather than selecting a two-basin metal sink, for example, go with one large ceramic farmhouse sink. Choose a faucet that looks traditional, with a high swooping spigot and brushed metal finish.
Glass Cabinet Doors
Displaying your fine glassware and china will make your kitchen look more traditional, as this evokes the look of old-fashioned china cabinets. Select glass-front doors for a few of your cabinets, and arrange your polished stemware to look beautiful.
